PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY

The above society’s first concert thiyear will be held in His Majesty ? Theatre on Wednesday, March 7. A most attractive and interesting programme has been arranged for thi - concert, opening with the March ‘Silvia,’ by Blach. This will be followed by the to the opera ‘ Nabucodonosor,’ by Verdi. It is a very fine piece of orchestra.tinn, and is bound to be appreciated by the audience. Next will follow a tone picture taken from 1 A Russian Village,’ by Marsden. Tins is a very descriptive composition, and should prove a very pleasing item. The first part of the programme will conclude with the meditation ‘Thais,’ by Massenet, This is taken from the opera ‘ Thais. The subject is a tranquil and a most beautiful flowing melody, and is bound to be a very acceptable item. The second part of the programme will open with the ‘ Symphony in C Minor,’ by Squarise. This is a very fine composition, and has always proved a most attractive item when performed by the society. Tin) Japanese dance, ‘ Ke-Sa-Ko,’ descriptive of the East, is very charming and full of light and shade, and should make a delightful finale to the concert. \ The public will again have an opportunity of hearing Signor Giovanni Stella, who has kindly consented to sing for the society at this concert, while the lady singer will be Miss Eva Scott. The box plan will open on Monday next, and 2s Gd tickets will be on sale.
