WESTPORT, February 24. Their Excellencies Sir (Diaries and Lady Alice Fergnsson, who arrived on Wednesday on an unofficial visit, have had very little spare time, as they have been to social functions in the evenings, and in the daytime have been out to the schools within a thirty-mile radius, and visited the hospital and the old peoples’ home. Sir Charles was also the guest of honor of the ex-service men of Denniston on Tuesday evening, Mr Clark presiding over a gathering of over seventy. Their Excellencies’ health was ably, proposed by Mr C. S. Beilby, To-day, under the direction ol the mayor and mayoress (Mr and Mrs Harkness), their Excellencies visited various institutions in Westport, including St. Mary’s College, where the students of the college and the pupils of St. Canices gave a song of welcome. Sir Charles gave a happy address, to which a reply was mad© by the Rev. Father Phelan. At the State school Mr G. H. Gothard (chairman of the committee) welcomed their Excellencies, and Sir Charles delivered a short address. This afternoon the Vice-Regal party were the guests of the citizens at a warden party at the technical high school grounds, where they were wel corned by the mayor. His Excellency in his address emphasised the need for all-round education before attempting to specialise. This evening the Governor-General attended a Masonic function at Granity, and to-morrow their Excellencies will leave for Kelson. . ‘
