‘SUSPENSE !'
it has been said that 1 Suspense 1’ is a play for intelligent people, for its action is so rapid, the dialogue so witty, that its subtleties are lost on the. dullard. Certainly the mysterious happenings in the first act are sufficiently puzzling, while the extraordinary developments in the second act provide further cause for hilarity and bewilderment ; but in the third act, where the author demonstrates the efficacy of an ordinary sneeze to create a nervous tension almost amounting to a panic, the average audience ceases to puzzle its brain further, and awaits the surprising climax in a state of cheerful excitement. The author has a cheery faculty for relieving the tension of his dramatic situations with a touch of the mundane, and the result is comedy of the first grade. ‘Suspense!’ is a fine example of Win. Graeme-Holder’s artistry, and will prove a refreshing item on our theatrical bill of fare. The box plans are filling rapidly.
