METHODIST DEMAND

HEW LICENSING BILL

The following resolution was carried at the Methodist Conference in Christchurch last night (says a Press Association telegram); “The Methodist Church of New Zealand in conference assembled, and representing 122,000 Methodists, respectfully requests_ the Prime Minister to introduce a Licensing Act Amendment Bill containing tho three main issues of the Bill passed by the House of Representatives last session—viz., (1) triennial polls, (2) a two-issue ballot paper, and (3) bare majority vote. The conference urges that such a Bill be introduced immediately after the debate on the Address-in-Reply, and that it bo given every facility for passage through both Houses of Parliament. We believe that such a Bill is strongly desired by the majority of tho electors in New Zealand.” The conference also passed a resolution against greyhound racing with mechanical hares.
