CRICKET

HAWKE CUP The match between Wanganui and Manawatu for the Hawke Cup had an unexpected ending at Wanganui yesterday, when the visitors made 345 in the second innings, compared with 166 in their first strike, leaving Wanganui 187 to get to retain the trophy. This they failed to do, scoring only 141, and making a very poor showing compared with the 325 knocked up in the first innings. The cup now goes to Palmerston North. ADDITION TO RULE ELEVEN . LONDON, February 22. The Official County Cricket Advisory Committee adopted an addition to rule 11 of the county rules, which reads: “ A British dominion or State shall, for the purpose of this rule, be regarded as a county.” The addition was made after obtaining the consent of the overseas governing bodies.
