UNIVERSITY DEGREES
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES [Pan United Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, February 22. At to-day’s meeting of the University Council it was resolved —“That the council ask for power to appoint one of its members as pro-chancellor without salary, who will, in the absence of the chancellor, exercise such of the chancellor’s duties as shall not be delegated by the council to the vice-chancellor.” The application of the Real Estate Institute for authority to conduct examinations was refused.
The Christie prize in anatomy was awarded to ,1. C. R. Hinclenach (Otago). Dr Tillyard was appointed to act as external examiner in the examination for the degree of Ph’.D. The question of having different degrees for internal and external students was deferred till next annual meeting. The following degrees and diplomas were conferred on successful candidates by the chancellor ("Professor Macmillan Brown) : Doctor of Medicine.—Muriel Helen Easterliold. Doctor of Philosophy.—James David Salmond.
