LAWN TENNIS
FRANCE AND AUSTRALIA
SYDNEY, February 21
The match France v. Australia was continued in fine weather, but play was confined to one court, which had been covered. This at first was a bit sticky, but afterwards improved. Crawford defeated Boussus, 6-3, 5-7. 6-4. The winner’s display was weak, his serving being without sting and unworthy of a Davis Cup representative. The Frenchman fought well, but missed many easy chances of scoring. Brugnon and Boussus defeated Patterson and Hopman, 6-4, 6-4. Apart from powerful serves, Patterson was below form, except at the stark Hopman was clever, serving and taking services splendidly. Brugnon was the star of the four, brilliantly serving many aces. ■ Borotra defeated Hopman, 6-4, o-4. The Frenchman displayed the better courtcratt, being particularly good with smashes and cross-court volleys, but the loser was not disgraced, participating in several fine rallies.
