CROQUET TOURNAMENT
OTAGO CENTRE’S ANNUAL The annual croquet tournament, conducted by the Otago Centre, commenced on the Punga Green this morning m fine weather. Excellent entries were received for the various competitions, a large number of visitors from town and country clubs being present. The green was in good order, and some evenly contested games were witnessed. The president of the Punga Club, Mrs Bridgeman, in declaring the tournament open, referred to the highly satisfactory number of entries received and extended a hearty welcome to the visiting competitors. The following are the results of the first rounds of the matches played this morning:— Championship Doubles. —Mrs Horn (Punga) and Mrs Corbett (Christchurch) 26 beat Mrs Cook and Miss Ireland (Oamaru) 0. Handicap Doubles.—Mosdames Manhire and Buckland (Punga) 26 beat Mesdames Nesbit and Swan (Balmacew'en) 15. B Grade Doubles.—Mesdames M Donald and Melville (Bal mace wen) 26 beat Mesdames Ireland and Moodie (Punga) 15.
