CHRISTMAS WEDDINGS
VICAR INCREASES FEES
There were fewer Christinas morning weddings in the poorer parishes of London last year. Some vicars discouraged their parishioners from asking for Christmas Day ceremonies because this popular wedding day in the East End falls on a Sunday, and there are all the ordinary church services, as well as more communion services than usual.
The vicar of the Christ Church, South Huc.kney, the Rev. Lambert Foxell, puts up the foes for Sunday weddings. “ 1 do it to prohibit the tveddings when Christmas Day comes on a Sunday,” he said, “and so this year we have only one marriage ceremony.” An East End of London vicars wife, whoso husband bad ten couples to marry after the morning service on Chrstmas Day, said the cirtom was altogether irritating and inconsiderate.
