MADAME GITTA ALPAR
HUNGARIAN MEZZO SOPRANO Dunedin music-lovers will have an opportunity of hearing a most talented artist in Madame Gitta Alpar, who is now here making arrangements for her son" recital to be given in the Burns Hall on Saturday, March 3. Madame Alpar only arrived Lu New Zealand from Hungary two years ago to join her husband, but after twelve months’ residence in Auckland she was left a widow under particularly sad and tragic circumstances. With two little hoys to support, and many thousands of miles from her native land, she bravely laced a task that would have daunted many a bolder person. Her desire is to earn sufficient to be able to return to Hungary and complete her professional studies, so that sho may be able to support herself and her two children. Madame’s tragic bereavement, her brave and independent spirit, and her- brilliant concert work have won her a host of admirers throughout New Zealand. In Dunedin madame will he assisted by leading local artists. The box plan opens on February 29.
