EMPIRE .
The story of the exciting happenings that befel a shy young girl who is sent from the comparative isolation of a Texas ranch to a finishing school, is told in ‘Naughty but Nice,’ Colleen Moore’s latest picture, which is being screened at the Empire Theatre; The theme centres about Bernice Bummers, who blossoms from an unnoticed wallflower, into the school’s most popular girl She arouses the interest of Paul Carroll, and through a series of unexpected developments, introduces a total stranger to her Iriends as her husband. They go to a party, and every effort is made to induce the bride and groom to enter the bridal suite. Finally, however, the tangle is cleared up and Bernice finds happiness with Carroll, lu addition to Miss Moore, the cast includes Claude Gillingwater, Hallam Cooley, Kathryn APGuire, Edytho Chapman, and Clarissa Selwynnc. An added attraction is a new senes of' ‘ Stereoscopiks,’ which give the audience the impression that the figures are walking right off the screen.
OCTAGON
A picture which is somewhat out of the usual run of motion picture productions is shown in ‘ The Flag Mewtenant,’ which was produced by a British company in co-operation with the Navy. The story deals with tho adventures of Dick Lascelles, a young lieutenant, who has had rapid promotion, and his friend, Major Thesiger, of the Marines. Both are sent with a force which is to relieve a besieged outpost in tile Mediterranean. They reach their objective, and the Arabs make another attack. The ammunition is running low, and the wireless is disabled; so Thesiger attempts to take a message through the enemy lines to the coast He is wounded in the attempt, and loses his memory, but Lascelles carries on, and is successlul. As the result of the message being received, seaplanes are despatched, and the post saved. On Dick’s return he finds that Thesiger is acclaimed as the hero, while a court of inquiry will be held into his absence from tho fort. Fearing to rob Thesiger of his rewards, Lascelles remains silent on the subject, but the truth is finally discovered, and the court does not sit on Lascelles. The leading roles are taken by Henry Edwards and Fred Raynliani, while Lilian Oldland and Dorothy Seacombo occupy the leading feminine roles.
EVERYBODY’S AND KING EDWARD
‘ Braveheart,’ a picture in which wigwam and college life are happily blended, is the current attraction at Everybody’s and the King Edward Theatres. A football game and an Indian outbreak are among the big scenes. The story is dramatic, and features Rod La Rocque and Lilian Rich in the leading roles. ‘ The DennBride,’ the other feature, is a farcical breach comedy, showing Aliss Shearer in the role of a saucy and mischievous Parisian school girl, who succeeds m winning a sophisticated boulevardier after a series of mirth-provoking incidents. Lew Cody plays the part ot tins boulevardier. Other members of tlie cast are Dorothy Sebastian, Lionel Bcjmore, Tenen Holtz, and Carmel Myers. The next programme at Everybody’s Theatre, commencing on Friday, promises to bo something out of the ordinary. The return season of 1 Tho Ten Commandments’ is announced, and also ‘Dancing Mad,’ featuring Alarie Cerda and Harry Siedtke.
PLAZA AND GRAND
The screen's best farce comedian, Reginald Denny, is now appearing at tli© PJaza and Grand Theatres in ‘ What Happened to Jones,’ one of the. most exciting comedies seen hero in months. Denny is featured in the title role of Jones, whose adventures pimide fun of the most rollicking kind. He is supported in the cast hy such players as Marion Nixon, Melbourne iNlacDouell. Francis Raymond, and Otis Harlan. Fox Films feature ‘ Hills of Peril’ is on the same hill. This is a typical Western jammed with action and packed with fun. Buck Jones and his horse (Silver Buck) are at their best in this picture. Georgia Hale has the leading feminine role. ‘The Bugle Gall,’ starring Jackie Coogan, is announced for presentation on Friday.
QUEEN'S
Rin-Titi-Tin, the wonder dog, gives another sterling performance in ‘Hills of Kentucky,’ the chief attraction at the Queen’s Theatre. Against beautiful outdoor backgrounds unfolds a talc of a puppy who is cast out from Ins home in a period of human starvation, and who becomes the loader of a pack of dogs who ravage the countryside. Hin-Tin-Tin plays this dog, known in harrowing legend as “'The Grey Ghost.” To tho mountain town comes a school teacher (Dorothy Dwan) with her little crippled brother (Billy Kent Schaeffer). There a young mountaineer (Jason Hobards) falls in lovoi with her. His half-brother, a treacherous man of bull strength, played by Tom Santschi, smashes in to break up the romance. 'The story of these lives becomes entangled with that of “Tho Grey Ghost” in a series ol encrossing episodes, full of surprises. ‘Three Miles Up,’ the second attraction, features the star A 1 Wilson in some daring stunts in the sky. and provides a picture which is brimful of thrills. Two good pictures arc announced for presentation on Friday. ‘ Red Dice,' starring Rod La Rocqnc, is the chief feature, and ‘Dance Magic,’ with Ben Lyon and Pauline .Starke in the leading roles, is the supporting picture.
ROSLYH
Dorothy Gish’s latest production, ‘ London,’ an original story written for the screen by Thomas Burke, will he screened at the Roslyn Theatre tonight. The photoplay was enacted against authentic London backgrounds, and pictures many noted places during the action of its story of the little stum girl who fled into tho night. Jt was directed by Herbert Wilcox and photographed by R. Field Overbaugh. .
