ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
SHEARS GASH ARAL A Gisborne Association message states that serious injuries were sustained by Richard Sherratt, aged seventeen, a son of Air Thornley Sherratt, at noon yesterday as the result ot a fall from a horse, which caused a pair of shears which the boy was carrying to enter his arm, severing the main artery. The accident occurred when the boy, with J. C. Atnrphy and the latter’s son, were six miles from Murphy’s station homestead, and it was not until 6.30 p.m. that tho lad, after receiving medical attention, arrived at the house on an improvised stretcher. His condition at the time was serious, but a satisfactory improvement is now reported. INJURIES TO EYE. A premature explosion during blasting operations on a Public Works Department contract at Carey’s Bay yesterday afternoon resulted in Ernest Johnston being removed to the hospital at 4.50 with injuries to his right ami only eye. The injured man, aged forty-five years, resides at Perth avenue.
