PACIFIC CYCLONE
STORM CENTRE AT VAVAU ONLY SLIGHT DAMAGE TO PLANTATIONS [Pkb United Pkess Association.] AUCKLAND, February 21. News of a cyclonic storm in the Pacific was brought by the Tofua’s passengers. The storm centre was Vavau. On the 3rd inst. the barometer reading was 28.96, and the wind blew for several hours_ at seventy miles an hour. The cyclonic storms passed to the westward of the Samoa Group, but caused heavy rain. In one week the rainfall at Mulinuu w r as 24.1, and in one day 23 points fell on Solaua plantation at Pago Pago, where there were only a few bursts of wind. As far as could be ascertained when the Tofua left only slight damage was done to houses and plantations where the cyclone was felt.
