BUSH FIRE

LOSS OF STOCK SCENIC RESERVE SWEPT WELLINGTON, February 21. Bush scrub fires which started at the Pukotoi ranges spread to the MakuriCoonoor district, and swept over a wide stretch of country. Loss of stock is reporter! to have been suffered by Messrs 1). M'Carthy and Hansen Brothers. The Makuri scenic reserve was also swept by the fire, and also Hansen’s plan'-’Hon. The flames also went over a portion of the properties of Messrs Ryan, H. Villon, R. K. Robertson, and T. Russell. There were some very narrow escapes of dwellings and farm buildings. Mr T. Ross, of Coonoor, had a firefighting party out all night round his woolshed until it was saved.
