MAGISTRATE’S COURT
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DEFAULT CASES. Judgment (with costs) was given for plaintiffs by default in the following cases:—Exhibition Demolition Company, Ltd,, v. G. Scott, 6s, costs of claim; William Wills v. Eric Lousley (Greymouth), £5 10s, goods supplied; Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association of New Zealand, Ltd., v, John Fraser (Naseby), £2 13s, goods supplied; Dominion Paint and Tar Products v. J. H. Bennett (Christchurch)) £4 5s 6d, goods supplied; Butterworlii Bros. v. R. Pascoe, £2O 6s Bd, goods supplied; James M'Gill and Sons, Ltcl.j v. Isaac Haberfield (Invercargill), £■ 10s, money lent; Tavendale Bros. v. Alfred John Greene, £3 7s 7d, goods supplied. JUDGMENT SUMMONS. In the case Ellen May Petrie v. James Whelan, defendant was ordered to pay £22 4s with costs (£1 3s) forthwith, in default three weeks’ imprisonment. ORDERS VARIED. C. E. M'Namara. (Lawrence) proceeded against D. R. Jones on a judgment summons to recover £8 13s 6d (costs 10s), and Fords, Ltd. (Gore) proceeded against tho same debtor to recover £2O Is (costs £1 os). Dir G. T. Baylee appeared for tho judgment debtor, and Mr J. P. Ward for the judgment creditors.—Defendant said he was a mechanic earning £4 7s a week. He borrowed £SO as part of tho money to pay tho deposit on a house costing £1,250. His wife owned a car, in which he and his son used to travel to work. It w r as worth only about £2o.—The Magistrate said he was not satisfied with the defendant’s statement as to his position, and ordered him to pay 2s Cs a week off each judgment.
