LORRY AND VAN
ONE KILLED IH COLLISION [Fib Unites Phbss Association.] MASTERTQN, February 18. A serious motor accident happened in Queen street shortly after 7 o’clock this morning, when a Black-and-White delivery van from Wellington collided with Kenneth Aplin’s motor lorry, which was conveying freezing works employees to Waingawa. Aplin’s lorry had proceeded as far as the convent when the Black-and-White bus approached from the south 4 There was no obstruction on the road other than a milk cart, which was standing in close to the kerb. The right hub of the cap of the Black-and-White bus struck the lorry on the step, the Wellington bus turning over. The hood portion of the lorry was badly smashed, and many of the. occupants were injured. Frank Shackletou’s skull was fractured.
Frank Marsh received' injuries to his shoulder.
William Hugh Long, injuries to his spine.
Hugh Carswell, cuts and bruises. They were all removed to the hospital. Charles M’Alistcr and Harry Simpson received minor injuries, Louis Framuyne, driver of the Wellington bus, received slight injuries to his ribs, but was all right after being bandaged. Mrs M. Y. Bates, of the Upper Hutt, who was travelling in the bus to Masterful), received minor cuts on tho head and leg from the Hying glass of tho windscreen.
Work has been suspended for the day at the Wuingawa works, the butchers remaining in town .and making anxious inquiries about their comrades in hospital. Shackloton died in hospital at 8.45 p.m. The other throe are progressing, and are reported to be out of danger,
