METHODIST CONFERENCE
[Pbb United Pkess Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 17. At the Methodist Conference to-day the Rev. L. B. Neale moved—“ That the conference early in its session appoint a committee, including departmental officers of the church, to consider the best method of consolidating and extending Methodism throughout the dominion, the committee to give attention to such matters as the establishment of secondary schools, the training of religious educational instructors, the subsidising of aggressive circuit movements and district extensions, and the augmentation of ministerial stipends.” The motion was carried and a large committee was set up. On the recommendation of the Examinations Committee eight students were received for theological training. The following were admitted ns ministers in full connection with conference:—Moses Ayrton, John Bailey, Hubert G. Brown, Hubert L. Friberg, Harry S. King, Robert M‘Gregor, Oliver S. Bearn, Herbert Spencer, and Cecil Taylor. It was decided that _ ten preachers should remain on probation. The following were received by. the conference on probation:—John D. Grocott, C. A. Hailwood, F. J. Hardy, H. Hayman, and H. H. Jeffreys. Two Maori preachers were admitted as Native ministers. It was resolved that the conference be recommended to appoint a district house missionary committee to consider church extension in Auckland city and suburbs.
