CHINESE FINANCES

PANIC IN THREE PROVINCES j ARRESTS AND EXECUTIONS 900 FIRMS SUSPEND BUSINESS. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SHANGHAI, February 17. (Received February 18, at 1.18 a.in.) An economic crisis and a financial panic reign in three of the eastern provinces controlled by General' Chang Tso-lin, owing to the depreciation of currency. Chang attempted to remedy this by arresting and executing a number of leading exchange brokers on charges of upsetting the money market. Nine hundred native firms have suspended j payment in the last two months.
