Foley (6) and Dempster (27) continued the local innings against tlu bowling of Oxenham and Blackie. Dempster beautifully square - cut Blackie to the boundary. Grimmett replaced Oxenham after one over. Dempster appeared confident, but Foley was shaky to Blackie, and the scoring was very slow. Fifty appeared after fifty-one minutes’ play. Dempster nlaced Grimmett prettily with a late cut for 2. Foley leg-glanced Blackie to the boundary, and ran into double figures. Dempster was still playing sound, crisp shots. Foley slashed Grimmett through the covers '..0 the fence. Both batsmen were going for the slow bowler, and Foley was better form. Twice the ball wont Through the visiting fieldsmen. Foley drove Grimmett to the off boundary, r.nd brought his score to 20. At 76 Morton replaced Blackie, who went on against the wind, relieving Grimmett. None for 40. Dempster reached 50 with a smartly-run single after eighty minutes at the crease. Blackie changed to round the wicket with a well-set log trap. Lowry was getting forward to Morton, but was unable to get the ball through tho field. At 90 Oxenham spelled Morton. Lowry was lashing out at Oxenham, but failed to get squarely belli. ' the ball.
