POLICE COURT
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, SAL) ICE CREAM VENDOR FINED. Further evidence was given in the case against John Balneaves, who was confronted with four charges of keeping his shop at St. Clair open on a Sunday within view of a public place for the purpose of selling ice cream. Mr J. B. Callan. appeared for the defendant who pleaded not guilty. Counsel submitted that the information should be dismissed on the grounds that the evidence had shown the sales to have been made with the understanding that the ice creams would be consumed on the premises. The Magistrate stated that if a vendor saw (it to sell ice creams in cones he should take steps to see that they were not taken off the premises, end it was bis duty to provide reasonable accommodation for them to be
oaten on the premises. Tho defendant was convicted on all charges, and fined 20s and costs (335) on the first charge, and costs (13s) on : the second charge. i CHARGE AGAINST MOTORIST. William Foster (Mr C. J. L. White) was charged with being drunk while in charge of a motor car at Shag , Point on October 24.. He pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by Vivian Asquith, a gardener at Bushey Park estate, and for the defence by Geoffrey M'Laren, a laborer of Shag Point. The case was adjourned until. Friday next.
