ODDS AND ENDS

As a substitute for whipped cream, slice a banana thinly, and beat it up with the white of an egg until stiff. They will mix together and make a delicious substitute fur whipped cream. The purple stains from typewriter ribbons or copying ink rolls are set, rather than removed from one’s hands by soap and water, no matter how vigorously applied; but a cloth wet with a little pure alcohol or hay rum will take off the unsightly marks and make scouring unnecessary, unless tho soap has been used first. The family bag should be made out of some strong transparent material, such as curtain net or mosquito netting, and you will find that you do not have to turn everything upside down and waste precious time hunting for something that may not ho there. To whiten kitchen tables, floors, etc., mix together half a pound of sand, half a pound of soft soap, and lour ounces of lime. Work all into a paste with a stick. When scrubbing, lay a little on the board and scour as usual. Afterwards wash the wood with plenty o clean cold water. Wood thus treated can be kept spotlessly clean. Salt is a very good thing to use for removing soot from a carpet. Cover the marks thickly and sweep up alter a little while. No smears will be left at all. After this, just wipe tho carpet over with a rag dipped in warm water containing a little turpentine. This will freshen tho colors.
