PORT CHALMERS REGATTA

A meeting of the Port Chalmers Regatta Committee was held last night in the council chambers, Mr W. J. Wilson presiding. The Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association forwarded a circular letter in which it _ was stated that the association desired all clubs and regatta committees to enforce the rule in regard to keeping non-competing craft from obstructing boats taking part in races. The association asked that outboard motors be required to have mufflers fitted.—The Chairman said that the onwers of non-competing boats should have sense enough to keep off the racing course. He was afraid the committee did not have power to - prohibit motors without silencers, as it seemed to be the matter of the right to use the harbor. The committee, however, was prepared to do all in its power to carry out the association’s suggestions The Port Chalmers Y’aeht and Motor Boat Club wrote asking the committee to consider the advisability of amending the regatta programme. There should be three prizes for motoring races, with a stipulation that there should be three entries or no race and five entries or no second prize. There should be three motor boat races also, a race for speed boats, and one for outboard motors.—The Chairman said there was a dictatory tone about the letter. The club had been twice asked to appoint three representatives on the committee, but only one attended, and tbe programme to which the club now took excejition was sumbitted to that representative before the programme was adopted. Mr Dale said he was afraid the letter did not accurately convey the spirit of the club meeting. The committee, in reviewing the programme, decided to add a motor race for boats of a speed of over nine miles an hour. It was also decided to add a third prize for the motor boat races. As amended, the programme now includes fourteen events—eight rowing, four motoring, and two sailing races.
