In the House of Commons Commander Bellairs asked whether the Treasury would exercise pressure to prevent tho amalgamation of telegraph companies, as it did in order to prevent the amalgamation’ of tho large banks of the Empire. Mr Winston Churchill, in reply, said that at present the subject was being comprehensively reviewed, and he could not make any statement An connection with it.

Commander Bellairs further asked; “ Will yon bear in mind that there is fear on the part of the public that the actions of the Governments concerned will be determined by the ownership of the Pacific cable?” Mr Churchill replied that the subject would be carefully considered in all its bearings.
