A detective story of a most unusual type, ‘Suspense!’ which opens it Australasian season at His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday week, boasts of a really human detective. Displaying_ all the authority of hia- official position, he nevertheless makes some very human blunders; and, while he eventually arrives at right conclusions, his eventual discomfiture is due, not so much to his lesser acumen as to his lesser speed. He is up ’Tfgainst some of the shrewdest brains of the underworld, and the deliberate obstacles placed in his way by people who should know better provide material for a very swiftly-moving and exciting story—a story which has earned the unanimous approval of the critics. Frank W. May, who has been especially chosen by the author to fill the role of Clinton, is another actor who makes a welcome reappearance in Dunedin after a lapse of some years, and his interpretation of the role is a really fine contribution to the list of successful character studies. ‘Suspense!’ has a record of unbroken successes, and the appearance of the author i nhis original role of Sir Peter Brace will add to the interest of the production. ‘Suspense!’ is not an adaptation from any ' book, but is now in course of publication in novel form.
