Forecast. The Dominion Meteorologist (Dr E. Kidson) supplied the following at noon to-day:—The indications are for moderate to strong westerly winds, and backing by west to south; the weather appears to be cloudy and unsettled, with rain following; barometer falling, but rising soon; tides good, sea rough.
ARRlVED.—February 17. Huntingdon, s.s. (6 a.m.), 11,590 tons, F. Ashworth, from Bluff. The big steamer Huntingdon arrived at Port Chalmers this morning from Bluff to load wool. She will probably leave to-morrow afternoon for northern ports. The Kurow was to sail late this afternoon for Bluff and Port Craig. She will return to Dunedin next week to load for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Wingatui, from Lyttelton, is due tills evening, and is to sail to-morrow for Tiniaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Karligi was to leave Auckland to-day for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timafu. 'and Dunedin. The Halo is to sail to-night for Timarn; Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Bringing case oil from Texas, the King Edwin is expected at Auckland about the end of next week. Her cargo is for Auckland, Napier, New Plymouth, Geelong, Adelaide, and Brisbane. It is reported that the steamer Quercus, which was chartered to load sugar at Java for Auckland, has now been fixed to load phosphates at Nauru for Australia and New Zealand. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.45 a.m. to-day. P.asscngers and mails lor the south connected with the first express. THE CANADIAN SEIGNEUR. The Canadian Government Agency has been notified by cablegram that the Canadian Seigneur arrived at Panama from Auckland on February 9, and sailed again on the same date for N.ew York, Boston, and Halifax. The vessel left Auckland on January 12. PORT HUNTER DUE SHORTLY. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Hunter, is expected at Auckland from Liverpool toward the end of this week. The vessel is bringing general merchandise trnm West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. A. AND A. LINE STEAMERS. .Expected at Fiji shortly, the A. and A. Lino's chartered motor ship Ashburton is en route Irom New York with case oil and general merchandise for discharge at Fiji, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Diyiedic* and Port Lincoln. She is scheduled to roacli Auckland on February 24. The Ashburton is owned by the Australian Steam ■ Shipping Company, and her former name was the Yomah. She visited New Zealand on her maiden voyage in January, 1926. Also under charter to the A. and A’. Line, tiie New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Piako is scheduled to reach Auckland from New York on March 9. Her other unloading ports are Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. PERSONAL. Mr C. R. Car I.yon has relieved Mr G. M. Coote as fourth officer of the Tahiti, the latter being appointed third officer of the Kaimai. . The Oonah has been recommissioned at Melbourne in command of Captain E. Evans, who has with him the following officers;—Chief, Mr E. A. Buckingham; second, Mr J. V. Bray; third, M r R. Blampied. CAP ARGONIA’S MAIDEN VOYAGE. According to advice received from Rio de Janeiro the new freight and passenger steamer Cap Arconia, of the Hamburg-South American Steamship Company, arrived there on the morning of December 2, having made the passage in twelve days, which the schedule provides for (states 1 Fairplay’). Thus all expectations concerning the performance, of the vessel have been fulfilled. CARGO FROM AUSTRALIA. The Union Company advises that the Karetu is to leave Adelaide oy February 20, and Melbourne on February 23, with cargo for Auckland, New Plymouth. Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin.
PORT BOWEN. TO LOAD. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Bowen, after loading apples at Tasmania, is to come to New Zealand to complete loading for England. The vessel is due at Opua next Monday, and at Auckland two days later. From Auckland the vessel will go to Gisborne, Wellington, Napier, and New Plymouth for further loading, and she will subsequently return to Auckland to fill up with cargo lor London and West Coast ports ol the United Kingdom. She is to he despatched finally from Auckland early in March. MATAKAWA POINT LIGHT. The Marine Department advises that the Matakawa Point light is reported to be showing two flashes every 50sec. An early readjustment of the light to normal working is intended. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
