PRAYER BOOK REVISION
COMPLETED BY HOUSE Of CLERGY SEVERAL CLOSE DIVISIONS LONDON, February 15. The House of Clergy completed the revision of the Prayer IBook after several close divisions had been recorded. One amendment, which was defeated by 82 to 74, proposed to forbid lights and other signs denoting that the Sacrament was reserved, the object being to prevent the Sacrament becoming a focus for worship. A motion was carried by 93 to 84 requesting the bishops to introduce rubrics preventing the worship of con-, secrated elements during public worship. The Dean of Canterbury, seconding the motion, said that many voted in favor of continuous reservation but were anxious to ensure that the elements were used only for the communion of the sick. The Rev. Sir Gotto, on behalf of the Anglo-Catholics, denounced the motion as a denial of the doctrine of the Real Presence. The House carried by 79 to 57 a motion affirming that the alternative communion did not change the church’s doctrine. It also agreed to a motion declaring it permissible to attend co.mrounion without fasting.—A. and N.Z. and ‘ Sun ’ Cable.
