SUBURBAN STATIONERS
EXTENSION OF HOURS GRANTED [Pem Unman Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 15. Applications ior an extension of hours were granted to sixty suburban stationers, members of the Small Shopkeepers’ Association, in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Under tho Shops and Offices Amendment Act of last year shopkeepers are able to apply for an extension of hours. These-applicants asked that the hours of closing on ordinary week nights be 8 o’clock instead of 5.30, 9 o’clock on the late night (the same a.s at present), and I. o’clock instead of 12.30 on Saturday afternoon. The magistrate granted all the applications; subject to tho provision that shop assistants would he employed under the conditions and hours of their awards. Many other applications are to bo made. The secretary ol the association is making arrangements to satisfy the requirements of small shopkeepers all over the dominion, and it is possible that a large number of further applications will bo made to the court.
