OBITUARY

MR 11. AV. GLENDINNING. Mr Robert AVhitton Glendinning, who died at his residence, Manor place, on Tuesday, at the age of sixty-eight, will be missed by _ his many friends, who admired and liked this quiet and unassuming gentleman. Mr Glendinning was a native of Berwickshire, Scotland, and he came to New Zealand forty-six years ago. Going in for farming, he obtained experience and training on one of the large stations then held by Sir John Roberts. Ho then acquired a property at Kokonga, and, bringing scientific methods to bear eventually made his place one of the most attractive spots in Central Otago. On retiring from the farming life, Mr Glendinning came to live in Dunedin, where he has resided ever since. On the outbreak of war, he immediately threw himslf into active work in connection with recruiting, and for a year he was in charge of the local recruiting office. As a member of the Patriotic Society, the Red Cross Society ; and the Soldiers’ Dependents’ Committee, he aided the great cause still further, while as treasurer of the St. John Ambulance Association he for many years found a steady outlet for his humanitarian principles. His chief recreation was bowling, and at the time of his death he was treasurer of the Kaituna Bowling Club. He was also a director of the Mosgiel Woollen Factory and an elder of First Church. A wife and three daughters survive him.
