‘THE FLAG LIEUTENANT'

COMMENCING TO-MORROW. To-morrow night patrons of the Octagon Theatre will be given a rare treat when ‘ The Flag Lieutenant ’ will be screened initially in Dunedin. This picture, which tells an absorbing story of the British Navy, was produced by Astra National, and released by Paramount, Filmed with tbc entire authority and the hearty co-operation of the British Admiralty, every branch of the silent service entered into the spirit of the play with the greatest zest, with the result that a magnificent picture is now to reach the screen. The main theme centres about Dick Laseolles, a young naval lieutenant, and his friend Major Thesiger, of the Royal Marines. Both are ordered away on a puntive expedition to an outpost in the Mediterranean. Dick’s dare-devil ways and levity make a bad impression with the commander of the outpost, and he is found to be absent from the post one day. Unknown to anyone, Dick had carried through a scheme for their rescue that had been evolved by the major. The latter was'wounded, however, and unable to carry it through, but through Dick’s action all the credit goes to the marine officer. On their return to the base the true story is told, however, and Dick’s part in the affair receives recognition. Henry Edwards is the lieutenant, Fred Rayham the major, Lilian Oldland and Dorothy Sencombe are the ladies in the play.
