Th© Roxburgh School Committee made application for tho establishment of a manual training centre at Roxburgh to serve the district from tho top of Coal Creek down to Miller’s Flat. It considered that its claim for these classes was equal to that of Alexandra, and Tapanui.—The matter held over in the meantime. The St. Leonards Baptist Young Women’s Bible Class applied for the use of the school for a camp at Easter.— Approved. The board’s seal was affixed to the transfer of tho South Dunedin High School site to the Crown. THE CLYDE VALE SCHOOL. The board’s sub-committee reported as follows: — “The committee visited Clydevale on Thursday, February 2, and met the members of the School Committee and householders, who expressed their views for and against the removal of the school to a site nearer the saleyards. The board’s committee is of opinion that the reasons advanced for the removal of the school are not in themselves sufficient to warrant an application being made to the department for a grant in the meantime. On a 12ft basis tho school will accommodate thirty pupils, and on a 1011 basis thirty-six. The present roll number, is twentyeight. The committee recommends that, until tho time comes for the enlargement of the school, the question of removal be held in abeyance. The matter of driving to Tuapeka Mouth was suggested, but until a bridge is built tho proposal appears premature. It was decided that the architect be instructed to look into the question of ventilation and do what was necessary. The report was adopted. ARCHITECT’S RECOMMENDATIONS. The following recommendations were made by the architect: Normal.—Advisory Committee’s application for improvements: Tho architect recommends that the teachers’ room and, tho head master’s office at tho Normal School be painted and papered, and that a screen, lockers, etc., bo provided for the girls of the secondary department—estimated cost, £39. With regard to the remodelling of the secondary' room and tho Standard VI. room, he suggests that the board should do all in its power to cot the department to complete the remodelling of th© whole school. Musselburgh.—Committee’s request for ground improvements: Architect reports that it is very desirable that the work should be carried out at an early date. The work consists of channelling, asphalting, and top-dressing, and the estimated cost is £425. Committee has raised its one-third share of the cost.
Warrington.—Architect recommends that the tender of Mr J. Traill of £1.185 be accepted for a new school. Tokomairiro.—Committee asks that a basin be placed in the teachers’ room and the waiter lai don, and that electric light be installed in the head master’s office and teachers’ rooms, also for two hose taps at th© rear of the school for cleaning purposes. The architect reports that this will involve extra expenditure of about £l6, but to complete the remodelling satisfactorily it should be done.
Mosgiel.—The architect recommends new roller blinds and repairs to tubs, stove piping, and spouting—estimated cost, £l2. OwalW —Committee’s application for top-dressing and extending same in front of school: The committee agrees to find labor if the board will supply material. The architect estimates ihe cost of material at £l7 8s 3d, and recommends that the board provide this on the condition that the committee finds labor and kerbing. The recommendations were all adopted.
