TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL

MEETING OF MANAGERS Mr T. Scott presided, over a meeting of King Edward Technical High School Managers, held yesterday afternoon. Mesdames M. Gumming and Herbert, Messrs J. Horn, G. Clark, and L. Sanderson also attended. Tho principal (Mr W. G. Aldridge) reported that the school reopened on tho 6th inst. with a roll of 534 pupils, and on the Bth inst. this had increased to 563. The totals in each course were as follow:—Art (boys) 3, art (girls) 20, building (boys) 63, commercial (bovs) 74, commercial (girls) 165, domestic (girls) 86, and engineering (boys) 152. The courses were much better balanced than had been the case for some years, art and domestic science having increased and commercial decreased. Since the opening the roll number had reached 584, as against 650 on the same date last year. At present the board’s workman was engaged in constructing an additional set of woodwork benches so that three classes in woodwork might be taught at once. He would shortly proceed with the erection of partitions in the garage, so that accommodation might be provided for the proposed classes in painting and decorating. The report ivas adopted. A letter from Miss Roberts, captain of the Girl Guides, thanking the managers for the use of the hall, and asking for the same privilege for 1928, was received and the request granted.
