NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL [Pub United Pkbss Association.] PALMERSTON N., February 15. At the annual meeting of the Mew Zealand Croquet Council, the Chairman (Mr Murray) said that the council could congratulate itself on its financial position. It has a credit balance better than ever before. The following officers were elected President, Mr A. G. F. Ross (Christ-, church); Archdeacon Creed Meredith (Wanganui); secretary and treasurer, Mr C. A. E. Ferguson (Palmerston North) ; dominion handicapper and referee, Mr R. Caughley. It was decided to challenge for the M‘Robertson Shield, which, the Chairman said, would become the Davis Cup of croquet. The medals donated by the English Croquet Association wifi be competed for in Auckland. It was decided to hold the next annual tourney at Wanganui and a North Island fixture at New P.lymouth. DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. [Pbb United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., February 15. The tournament was continued this morning. In the ladies’ championship singles (first life, semi-final) Miss Steel (England) 26. beat Miss Hesketh (Auckland) 20. In the ladies’ championship singles (second life, fourth round) Miss Hesketh 26 beat Mrs Watkins (Hastings) 18. In the semi-final Miss Hesketh beat Mrs Brabant (Auckland) by default.
