VICTORIAN BOWLERS
NOW IN DUNEDIN The Victorian bowlers reached Dunedin at 6.23 last night by train from Invercargill, and were met at the railway station by a large number of bowlers, including Mr D. M. Fastier (president of the Dunedin Centre), Mr J, r ', Stephens (president of the Dunedin Club), Mr W. Henaghan (president of the Caledonian Club), and Mr 1?,. Hanning (secretary of the Dunedin Centre). The deputy-mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas) was also there to informally join in the reception. His official welcome was on the Dunedin Green this afternoon. The members of the visitors’ party are:—Mr and Mrs W. Lyon, Mr and Mrs W. F. Newham, Mr and Mrs W. A. Wright, Mr and Mrs H. F. Pilkington. Mr and Mrs W. Wain, Messrs J. S. Whalley, H. M. Leggo, T. M. Davie, P. G. Barnett, G. B. Leith, F. R. Scharf, W. J. Creath, P H. Rnv, A, Downton, A. H, Davie, J. P. Grant, J. I. Hindle, W. G. Ferguson, H. A. Bayley, A. Kingsbury, S. G. Gaylord, and E. H. Leggo. 'Mr Newham belongs to Castlemcin, Mr H. M. Leggo and Mr Creath to Dendigo, and Mr Kingsbury to Dandenung. All the others are members of clubs in the metropolitan district of Melbourne. Mr Lyon is the manager. The visitors played two matches in Invercargill, one official, and lost both. Their quarters in Dunedin arc at the Grand and the City Hotels. This morning the Victorians vero taken for a motor tour of Dunedin and suburbs, accompanied by members of the executive of the Dunedin Centre. At 2.30 in the afternoon they were to begin a five-rink match against Dunedin players on the Dunedin Green. This evening is to be devoted to social functions—a “smoko” at the Savoy for the men and a welcome to Us lady members by Dunedin ladies. At 9 o’clock to-morrow morning the members of the visiting team will be present at a bowl-testing demonstration on the Dunedin Club’s green by the official bowl tester. Afterwards they will be taken for a tour round the Otago Peninsula. Leaving the Dunedin Club’s green at 10.30, they will travel by the high road to Higbcliff, whore they will stop for morning tea, and will proceed to Portobello. returning by the lower road. They will be motored to Waitati in the afternoon, and the second match against the Dunedin Centre will bo played on the Caledonian Club’s green at 6.>30. The team will leave by the 8.40 a.m. train on Friday for Timaru.
