Joseph J. LcliVa, a young married man, was charged at the Police Court, Dargaville, with breaking and entcr-
m ■ W. 0. Hyland’s general store on nr about November 24, 192", and stealing a sum of money amounting to £S 15s Cd. As other charges aro pending, a. remand was granted for seven days. The Uargavillo courthouse presented the appearance of a general store. The floor was strewn with all sorts of merchandise. In view of the number of potty thieving cases during the past twelve months, some interesting developments aro expected. Tenders aro to bo called at once for the new Auckland railway station. The work will provide employment for a. large number of men for eighteen months.
The insurances on Thomas Clements's joinery factory in Great South road, Otahulm, which was. destroyed by fire on Monday night, were £'5,000 in the Alliance Insurance Company on the timber and workshops and £7OO on other buildings. Mr Clements will be a heavy loser, as he estimates his total loss at £B,OOO. The Labor Department slated yesterday that proceedings wero about to be taken against, the slaughtermen employed at the Ngahauranga Meat Works for breaches of the freezing workers’ award and the . Arbitration Act. Eighty-six men are involved. It is understood that proceedings may also be taken against too men employed at other freezing works for breaches of the Act.
