Mrs Stock goes to-morrow, with her daughter, Airs Clarry. to Wellington.
Aliss Denniston left on Alonday, for Christchurch.
Airs G. Callaway gave a very pleasant little bridge party yesterday afternoon for Airs Clarry. Airs Billy Glasso (of Auckland) is on a holiday visit to Dunedin, and is at present staying with her sister, Airs J. Greer Johnston, Dunoitar.
Dr 'Helen Eastcrfield has been recommended for the Lady King Scholarship.
Mrs E. A. Henderson, Davenport, Auckland, who is spending a holiday in Dunedin, leaves on Alonday for Christchurch and Akaroa.
The engagement is announced of Margaret (Aladge), youngest daughter of Alt s Ceo. Booth, sen., Anderson's Bay. to Leslie Stuart, youngest son of Air and Airs Win,, Winclield, sen., South Dunedin.
Aliss AL Halsted lias received word from Auckland that she has passed the captain’s test for tho Girl Guides. Aliss Halsted is at present acting captain of tho Alusselburgh Girl Guidos Company.
Aliss L. White, of Anderson’s Bay, who leaves in a few weeks for a trip to England, entertained a few friends at her home yesterday. Among the guests were All's Jupp, Airs Ron free, Airs J. Somerville, Airs Matthews, Mrs Austing, Airs Angus, Airs Service, Airs T. Bogg, Alisso.s Wither (3), Somerville, and Burn.
Aliss Wallace Watson, of St. Clair, was hostess the other day at a pleasant afternoon party given for the Aliases Anscombc, among the guests being Airs P. Martin, Airs Carter (Wellington), Airs W. Brown, Alisscs E. Bead, AI. Kirk, M. Lane, Fowler, J, Grove, E. King. AL Anderson, Boyd (2, of Lovell’s Elat), APHutciiesou (2), and AI. Feathers tone.
The Alisscs Anseombo were again the guests of honor at an afternoon party, their hostesses being Airs and Aliss Martin, of lloslyn. Other guests invited included Airs G. Mr and Mrs James Begg, Ross street, Boslyn, are kindly lending their grounds for a garden fete on Saturday, tho funds of which will go to tho To Taumata Club. There will bo all sorts of competitions, as well as games, such as clock golf, a treasure hunt, and, of course, a variety of popular stalls. So, anybody who goes—and ono_ hopes that the number will be large—is sure to enjoy himself or herself.
Alisscs Ruby and Marjorie Anseombo have left for Sydney to join the Otranto en route to England, tho Continent, and the United States. They expect to be back about the end of tho year.
Miss Edna Wilson has been appointed captain of the 2nd Anderson’s Bay Company of Girl Guides, in the place of Aliss Ayson, who recently resigned. She will also bo the acting captain of the Ranger Company during Aliss White’s absence in tho Old Country.
Aliss L. White, captain of tho Ist Anderson’s Bay Company of Girl Guidos, the patrol leaders and seconds, as well, as a few other friends, gave a farewell party on Saturday morning at the Tudor Hall for Miss Marjorie Anscombe.

The Countess of Yprcs has become a kitchen and bathroom designer, while pretty Lady Lawson is opening a valeting service, where she will personally superintend the cleaning of the more delicate frocks scut in. Lady Clonmel has been successfully running a large laundry for some time now, and her countrywoman, the Hon. Edith Fitzpatrick, presides over a quaint Chelsea slioj) that specialises in homc-mado cakes.
Saturday’s races drew a large crowd at Wingatui, in spito of a threatening sky and distinct chili in tho air. The change in the weather gave ladies a clianco of showing off tho now winter wraps and hats, and of renewing acquaintance with furs. On tour through Now Zealand at tho present time is Air P. S. Symo, B.Sc., vice-principal of tho Somerset Agricultural institute, England. Air Symo has leave until September. He arrived via. Australia at Auckland five weeks ago, and has made a Isirly comprehensive tour of tho North island. He camo to Dunedin a few days ago, and left yesterday to visit Cromwell and Queenstown. Through the courtesy of Air S. Bowman, of the Waitaki Dairy Company, Air Symo was enabled _to view Dunedin and its surrounding beauty spots. Air R- B. Tennent has arranged for him to inspect tho Government farm at Galloway. Air Symo is enchanted with New Zealand scenery, and is impressed by tho absence of slums in tho towns, the health of tho people, the, conditions under which they live, which, ho says, are incomparably belter than those obtaining at Home. In short, ho says that the glories of New Zealand, though oft extolled, have been only half told. On his return from tho south Air Symo will spend a few days in Dunedin, and will be the guest of his relatives. Air am! Airs C. E. Bryce, Bellcknowes.
In spito of two largo balls on Yvednesday and Thursday, so great are tho attractions of the Tudor Hal! that Saturday saw again a crowd of enthusiastic dancers. There were, ui course, many strangers, who finished vile day’s racing with this health-giving exercise, and one nuticcdalsu a large number ol residents. Aliss Nora Phillips, a happy debutante, entertained a large .parly ol friends, among whom were Alisses Oram, Livingstone, Williams (2), Vipan, Hartmann, Alandcno, Halsted (2), Finch, Hislop, Orbell, N’ichol, Actou-Adams, Brewer, and Reid, Messrs Kelly, Blomtiekl, Actou-Adams, Reeves, Haggitt, Stevens, Solomon (2), Blunt, Soliiiger, Barr, APPhail, Laing, and Halsted. Others present with their own little parties wero Alisscs It. Thompson, Tail, Peake, Didsbniy, Rutherford, Cheo.semau, Nichols, Reid, K. Hazlett,, Airs Leslie Alills, Air and Airs A. Nichols.
On Alonday, February (1, there was celebrated at St, Paul’s Cathedral a lire tty wedding between Alargnerito (Rita), eldest danghtetr of Air ami Mrs W. Hawkins, and Harold, third son of Air W. Ashby. Canon Novill officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming frock of beige crepe de chine, with a hat to match, and sho carried a handsome bouquet of roses and gladioli. Her two bridesmaids, Aliss Violet Dickel and Aliss Joyce Hawkins (sister of tho bride), looked very well in pink crcpo do chine, with hats to tone, and bouquets of sweet peas and roses. After the ceremony the wedding breakfast was partaken of at tho Somerset Lounge, which was appropriately decorated for the occasion, a beautiful wedding bell being much in evidence. The happy couple left later for Stewart Island for their honeymoon, the bride’s travelling dress being a beige ensemble suit.
The St. Clair carnival, to be held the last three days of this week, should bo a great success, provided the wcathei does its share. An energetic and enthusiastic women’s committee is at work, with Airs Priest as chairwoman and Airs Hervcy as ••s.sistaut chairwoman. Various stalls have been allotted as follow;—Cool drinks, in charge of Mrs Lowry and. Airs 01 iphant; flowers and vegetables, Airs Hazelwood; cakes and sweets, Airs Anfrcro’ Fenwick, Airs Orbell, Airs Allies, and Miss AI. Samson; carnival stall (paper hats, confetti, and balloons), Mrs Lcthaby and Airs Rowden; two ice cream tents, Airs Dampen, Airs Scorgie, Airs Alartin, Airs Priest, Aliss Saunders, and Aliss Priest. Airs Piddington and Airs Roiitledgo are arranging the details of tbc baby show —always a popular item; and as a final attraction there will be one or two fortune tellers. Tho cause is good, and if, is to bo hoped that tho public will respond generously.
