THE “DUCTILE” CONCRETE BUILDER
The letter published last week, in which a correspondent described his projected methods of concrete building, has been criticised by “ Builder,'” who Writes; —
“ Your correspondent seems to think Unit speedy erection and simplicity of the forms used are the only considerations in house construction, and he overlooks the fact that the monolithic nature of a structure, oven if a little more expensive, is always preferable to a building made on the block and slab principle, no matter, how well jointed, ft is a fact that local expansion and contraction must take place between studding and blocks when the concrete is jointed to the Already set studs. To my mind the best form of concrete house is the hollow wall, monolithic type, ns jointless and voidless as possible; next, the double wall block system ; and lastly, tho slab system. It would bo rather interesting if it were possible’ to get a practical demonstration of your correspondent’s methods.”
