OUTSTANDING BRITISH PRODUCTION
‘THE FLAG-LIEUTENAHT' The screen version of ‘ The Flag Lieutenant,’ which opens at the Octagon Theatre on Friday next, has won the approbation of critics on both sides of the Atlantic. It is a British-pro-duced romance of the Royal Navy, and was made with the whole-hearted cooperation of the British Admiralty. The story centres about Richard Lascelles, a young flag lieutenant in the Navy. He is in love with Sybil Wynne, the admiral’s daughter, and, though she loves him, his daredevil ways cause her to refuse to marry him. On a punitive expedition in the Mediterranean, Richard performs a deed of_ valor, which he credits to Major Thesiger, of the Royal Marines. Through his refusal to tell why he was absent from his post on a certain occasion, he loses favor with the authorities, but finally his honor is cleared, and Sybil decides to marry him. The role of Sybil is filled by Dorothy Seacombe, who was, not very long ago, a prime favorite on the Australian stage. Richard Lascelles is played by Harry Edwards, while Major Thesiger is played by Fred.Raynham; and the other roles are filled by players equally prominent. The Lords of the Admiralty gave valuable assistance during the filming of the picture by placing H.M.S. Tiger, destroyer H 54, and their officers and men, at the disposal of the “movie” director.
