ST. KILDA BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night, the mayor (Mr R. W. Hall) presiding. Others present; Crs R. Teller, E. Lougworth, J. Beattie, G. Stratton, C. Conn, F. O. Gillam, T. D. B. Boy, and J. Leary. In connection with the finance report, the district fund account showed a credit balance of £13,682 15s 8(E A lengthy letter dealing with the Culling Park lease agreement was received from the secretary of tho Otago Football Association. Ho referred certain matters to the council, these including the payment of £-1(10, the basis being the erection of a building by the association. He did not think that keeping tho drain in order was a reasonable charge on the tenants. Clauses in connection with keeping the ground in a tit condition for cricket would not apply miles sthe ground was let to a cricket club. There was no clause empowering the association to lock the gates. The writer made the suggestion that the council delete the portion of clause 14 which provided for payment of water and a water meter.—Received.
Tho Town Clerk, Wellington, wrote re the fund being raised in cpnnection with the fatality whereby _ Lieutenant J R. Moncricff and Captain G. Hood lost tlioir lives.—lt was decided to open a subscription list, and to confer with tho City Council with a view to cooperating with that body in any decision it arrived at in regard to the matter.'
The Town Clerk, Dunedin, wrote urging the necessity for the conservation of the city water supply, and preventing waste in any form.—Received. A letter was received from the Public Works Department, Wellington, with regard to taking land for street widening purposes.—Received. The Department of Health, Wellington, wrote re the Plumbers’ Board proposing an amendment in the Plumbers Registration Act, 1912, so as > to retain the clause that tho installation _of all water, etc., be done by registered plumbers. Their, work was subject to inspection under the by-laws of all local authorities.—Received. It was decided that the town dork (Mr W. G. Griffin) represent tho council at the Municipal Associations’ Conference to be held at Nelson on March 14. The cost of the water consumption for the fortnight was £ll6 16s 6d, as against £ll3 6s for the previous period.
