JURY-TAMPERING PROCEEDINGS CLARK EXONERATED. WASHINGTON. February 10. The court purged Clark of contempt and freed him in the jury-tampering proceedings. [Sheldon Clark, a Chicago sportsman and an official in one of Sinclair’s oil companies, was formally charged with conspiring to tamper with the oil trial jury. The Government attorneys laid charges after Clark refused to testify before the grand jury which was investigating the alleged jury tampering. They alleged that Clark conspired with Sinclair and Mason Day (another Sinclair official). _ Clark appeared voluntarily and waived the issuance of a warrant, and demanded a hearing, which was set for later in the mouth.] “WHISPERING CAMPAIGN.” SENSATIONAL CHARGES DENIED. NEW YORK, February 11. Mr John Adams, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, emphatically denied the sensational charge at present being circulated throughout the United States in the “ whispering campaign ” that the funds involved in the Teapot Dome oil lease helped to pay the committee’s deficit in 1921 and 1922. Mr Adams was committee chairman from 1921 to 1924.
