Dr Hardy, of (ho Whey Distributors, Ltd., London, passed through from Invercargill this morning on his way north. Mr T. Somerville, president of the New Zealand Master Primers’ Federation, travelled to Wellington to-day to attend the annual meeting of the federation, which is being held next week. Mr F. J. Williams returned from Invercargill by the through express to-day. Mr T. R. Bavin, Premier of New ,South Wales, occupied the Ministerial car on the through express this morning. He will join tho ferry boat at Lyttelton to-night. Mr T. Baird came up from Invercargill this morning. Air IV. F. While, Acting District Traffic Manager of Railways, iravelled to Christchurch by the second express to-day. The Rev. W. B. Scott is in camp at Matarae with the 15th Battery. Ho returns to Dunedin on Friday next, and leaves for Christchurch by the express on tho following day to attend the Methodist Conference, which opens in that city on tho 16th mst. An Auckland Press Association telegram states that tho death is announced of Mr C. C. M'Millan, a well-known merchant and a prominent Freemason, and a member of the Auckland Diocesan Synod and Chamber of Commerce. Ho represented Auckland in England on what is now the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire. At the annual meeting of the Otago branch of the Superannuated Public Servants’ Association tho secretary (Mr R. Parrant) stated that he had sent letters of condolence to the relatives of Air G. Freeman, Mrs Taylor, Airs Wilson, and Airs Caldow, all of whom had passed away since tho last meeting. Air Alfred Walmslcy, one of our most prominent tenors, has resolved lo go abroad in order to pursue his studies. Voice production, operatic singing, production of opera, and the true Italian "Bel-canto” method will be studied in Italy, principally in Milan, where a season of opera, in the famous Milan Opera House, should be particularly interesting and instructive. General interpretation, folk music, and English oratorio will be studied in London, and French opera and “Opera Bouife” in Paris. The music of Bach, particularly the great ‘Matthew Passion,’ which Mr yValmsley lias sung in Dunedin a number of times, will receive special attention, and a visit to Germany during Easter will enable him to hear the Passion music in its entirety, as well as many other other works by this composer. Air Walmslcy expects to be absent from Dunedin for at least two years, and the experience gained during that time should be of immense value to him upon his return to New Zealand. Now visitors to the Grand Hotel include Air H. S. Griffin (Toronto, Canada), Dr and Airs H. Evans (Townsville, Queensland), Mr R, Vincent (Sydney), Mr and Airs R. Nelson Burns and Air P. N. Bundle (Wellington), Messrs 0. Hope and A. P. Greenfield (Timarn). Recent arrivals lo the City Holol include Air J. Cull (Wellington), Mr W. Lewburn (Oaraaru), Alessrs J. Wilkinson and Frank Pyle (St. Balkans), Mrs AI. A. Quinn (Tapanui), Mrs S. Rodgers (Kaitangata), Air A. Baird (Invercargill), and Mr and Mm n. Afchurst (Riverton).
