.VALUABLE LIBRARY GONE. (Peb Uermsp Press Association,] GISBORNE, February JO. This afternoon an eight-roomed residence and its contents, owned by Mr J. R. Kirk, was completely destroyed by fire. Included in the loss was a valuable library, including volumes going back to the fifteenth century, and autographed works Gy iambus authors, valuable pictures, war medals, and South Sea Island_ curios.. The, insurance on the building was £2,000, and on the furniture £I,OOO, both in. the Standard office. SCRUB FIRE. CHRISTCHURCH, February 10. An extensive scrub fire, a mile long and a quarter of a mile in width, occurred at South Brighton this evening. Owing to the dryness of the scrub which covers the sandhills in the locality, the fire raged for several hours before it was eventually got under control. Fortunately there was little wind. It was with difficulty that the house occupied by Mr M Harper was saved, A motor car (a Hupmobile), the property of Mr Harper, was destroyed. This is the third scrub fire at Brighton during the past two months of dry weather.
