LAWN TENNIS

FRANCE v. AUSTRALIA. Press Association—By -Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, February 10. The tennis tests were concluded in fine, cool weather. In the singles Brugnou beat Hopmap, 6-d, 6-0, and Borotra beat Patterson, 7-5, 7-5. In the doubles Brugnou and Bonssus beat Crawford and Llopman, 6-4, 6-1. Hopman, in the singles, was right out of form, and was repeatedly worked out of position. He never looked like winning against the Frenchman, who played at, the top of his form. There was great interest in the game between Patterson and Borotra, as the two had not yet met during the tour, and it was thought that the result might give an indication of Australia’s Davis Chip chances. Both played superb tennis, and the game was most hardly fought, but Patterson was guilty of many errors, and finally lost tho match with a double fault.
