At the tortniglitly meeting of the Loyal Valley Lodge, M.U.f.0.0.F., K.G, Bro. P. H. Young presided over a good attendance of members. The principal business was tbo adoption of the annual balanco-shccl. This disclosed the lodge to bo in a sound pos_ition, the funds now totalling £10,757. Two of the trustees, H.P.G.M. Mro. J. .'Hobson and P.G. Johnson, congratulated members on the healthy financial position, and joined with the auditor in praising the good work of the permanent secretary (Bro. Palmer), who was accorded the Oddfellows’ toast,. It was reported that arrangements had been completed for a “ Dutch auction ” next lodge night, and that Bro. Hobson hud consented to act as auctioneer. Owing to the official visit from sister lodges being changed from March 5, at the request of the Loyal Albion Lodge, it was decided to hold an open progressive euchre tournament on that night, and to invito lady friends. Tho Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge met on Tuesday evening, when the N.G., Bro. Pithic, was in tho chair, there being a fair muster of members and visiting brethren. Three candidates were initiated and one proposal for membership received. It was decided to send nine delegates from the lodge to the annual district meeting at Roxburgh at Easter. At the close of business “ dcctivc officers’ ” night was carried out, this taking the form oj : a progressive card tournament, the prizewinner being P.G. Frazer, ft was announced that a past grands evening would be held next lodge night. Visiting members from Albion, Centenary, Caversliam, Valley, and Dunedin responded to the toast of the visitors. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Dunedin Lodge was held on Thursday evening in the M.U. Hall, Stuart street, when there was a good attendance of members and visitors from sister lodges. Tho N.G., Bro. M'Cnll, was in the chaii. One proposition for membership was received. The 1,000 membership campaign was given careful consideration, and members resolved to put forth their best efforts on behalf of their lodge daring the campaign. The meeting then adjourned, and an evening arranged by three members, P.G.s West, Wood, and Cowio was carried out. This took tho form of a progressive euchre tourney, in which, the prize was awarded to the player losing most games, each player playing to lose. This novel form of the game was much appreciated, and a pleasant
evening was spent by all, Bro. Esquilnnt proving tho prize winner. Tho Loyal Princess Mary Lodge held its fortnightly meeting in the Oddfellows’ Hail, Fortuity corner, tho N.G., Sis. Watt, in tho chair. There was a large muster of sisters, and visiting brethren were also present from the Loyal Dunedin, Caversham, and Hand and Heart Lodges. Two new members were initialed into the order, and throe proposals received for membership. At the conclusion of the ordinary business a “Dutch auction” was held, at which a fair amount of goods was disposed of, realising about £2 in aid of the funds. It was decided to entertain the members of the Caversham Juvenile Lodge at the latter’s next meeting.
