CUP DAY
“ A Parasol Parade ” would fitly describe the brilliant scene at Wingatui on Thursday. The weather was gloriously fine; in fact, almost too hot, though this is infinitely to be preferred to our usual cold and ram! Lawns dotted at the luncheon hour with many festive alfresco parties, gardens gay 'with seasonable flowers, and everywhere happy chat to be heard made up a. perfect day, so that even losers could not feel too downcast. Dresses, in many _ cases ultra-smart, were quite thrown in the shade by the brilliant lines'of parasols infloral designs, lace, embroidery, or silk of any and every color. Still, one did manage to get glimpses of some race frocks. Mrs Hanlon wore a beautiful beige georgette gown with a black hat, and Mrs Hislop, her sister, from Auckland, was in figured navy bine crepe de chine and a navy hat; Mrs Aingo, whose husband's win was so popular, was gowned in smart champagne, with a hat to tone. Mrs Diehard Hudson looked very well in sapphire blue trimmed with beige, and her daughter, Mrs Smeaton. wore a. fashionable shade of brown georgette with a bois-de-rose hat. Others present were Mrs Marshall Macdonald, in a wine tha.le Flench model frock and rare coatee of georgette; Mrs S. Batchelor, in figured ninon and close-fitting hat; Mrs V. Jacobs, in a smart black-and-white jumper frock; Airs Speight, in bronze georgette and lace; Mrs Jenkins, in navy blue and white; Mrs Finlayson, in primrose floral georgette and black hat; Airs L. Hudson, in biscuit-colored georgette over heliotrope; Airs AV. B. Hudson, in navy blue piped with white and a navy hat; Airs Bundle,- in bis-
cult shade and a green hat; Mrs Crawford, in a smart French embroidered navy blue gown; Mrs Stock, in black; Mrs Clarry, in navy blue silk and French model hat; Mrs Leslie Mills, in floral voile and pink hat; Mrs T. K. Sidey, in soft champagne silk and green hat; Mrs TL Fulton, in blue and white; Mrs Chceseman, in bois-de-rose georgette; Mrs Acton-Adams, in a newest shade of grey; Mrs Black, in smartly-cut black frock; Mrs A.
