MR HINKLER'S FLIGHT
HARROW ESCAPE IN ROME LONDON, February P. A message, from Air Bert Hinkler at Malta, states that lie, was over I,lm sea during practically the whole flight, from Rome whence he arrived at 3 o’clock. He adds; “ i had a. good sniff of Vesuvius fumes, while tho machine humped about violently. The R.A.F. here is extremely good. My landing at Romo last night was based on tho memory of ray landing eight years ago with a Baby Avro. I remembered the aerodrome and the wireless masts, and it gave me a feeling of horror this morning to sec more high wireless masts, to which I must have flown close in the darkness.”
