ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

TWO DROWNED. An inquest was held at Kaiticke coif' cerning the deaths of Archibald John Morgan, aged twenty-three, residing with his parents at Kaiticke, and Donald Anderson, aged sixteen, a farm hand, whose pa rents reside at Raurimu. The Coroner (Mr A. S. Laird) returned a verdict of accidental drowning in the Rctarnke River on the previous day. Elizabeth Moddio Morgan gave cvideiu-c that Anderson, who was unable to swim, got into difficulties, and her son went to his assistance. Anderson grappled with him, and both sank. She swam out to try and get them, hut was unable to do so, and went for assistance. The bodies were located some twenty minutes later in 12ft of water by a young man named Allan Gray, who dived for them, bat was unable to lift them. Eventually tbe bodies were recovered by means of enentangling a. pole in the costumes worn by the deceased. BLOW-LAMP EXPLOSION. While some pigs were being singed with kerosene blow lamps at the Tauranga bacon factory slaughter house an explosion occurred, as (he result of which a youth named James Clifford was severely burned on the arms, face, and legs. A Maori youth named Jack Napier was also burned on the lace. Both were removed to hospital 16r treatment. The cause of the explosion is not known.
