All elderly lady in Kensington got a rude shock recently, and her opinion of the modern young woman, which wasn’t very high before, is now about fifty below zero. The pretty wife of a leading theatrical manager called to obtain the character of a new maid she proposed to engage. She was tidy, sober, and honest, the old lady told her; punctual, respectful, and, indeed, everything that was desirable. “ But I, will not conceal from you that sbe is a leetle bit fond of the men!” “Oh,” replied her visitor cheerfully, “that’s all right! I’m fond of them myself.”
