PERMISSION REFUSED

1 YOUKG PALESTINE 1 PICTURE “ Let’s have a division and see who they are,” said Cr W. Scott at the meeting of the City Council last night, when it was claimed that a motion had been lost on the voices which sought to give permission to Mr H. Davies, secretary of the Christadelphian Church, to screen a picture entitled ‘ Young Palestine ’ at the Empire Theatre on Sunday, February 26, with the right to take up a collection for the Palestine foundation fund. Cr Begg said he would leave the table before the vote was taken unless more information was forthcoming. The Mayor said more information was not available: all they knew was what was contained in the letter. Permission to show the picture was refused, those who voted against the motion being Crs Shacklock, Campbell, Hayward, Larnach, Begg, Black, and Wilson.
