MANY REMITS [Peb United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, February 8. Tlio twenty-second annual conlereiico ot the New Zealand Institute ot Architects was opened to-day, Mr E. L. Moodic presiding. The following remits were carried:— “That the conditions governing the award ot the N.Z.I.A. gold medal be altered to allow ot the medal being awarded for design ot (a) a buildihg ot a public or commercial character fronting- a street, road, square, or court to which the-public has access; (b) a building of a domestic diameter, or a private or semi-private institution situated in its own drawings and photographs to he submitted.” “That the institute take in to consideration the advisability of framing a regulation to prevent architects from working in the employ of contractors instead of in the employ of building owners.”

“That it be a recommendation to the incoming council that the question of registration for clerks of works he seriously considered.” “That it be a recommendation to the council that it should advise all members to demand from contractors and insurance companies a certificate stating that the contractor holds an employer’s indemnity policy in respect of Ids liability under the Workers’ Compensation Act before any work is commenced.” “That it be a recommendation to the executive that it should continue its efforts to. impress upon the Government the injustice of trespassing upon private enterprise.”'

It was decided that the executive be advised to draw up rules lor the conduct ot arbitration, and circulate them among the members.

It was resolved that Mr W. C. Chatfield (Wellington), who was first president of the institute after the Act was formed, bo elected a life member.
