CORNWELL CUP CREW As a large number of Otago boating men will visit Stewart Island next week'To-witness the races for the Sanders Cup, the social evening arranged in honor of H. Riddell and C. Churchill, Otago’s crew which sailed in the Cornwell Cup, contested at Auckland, has been postponed until Wednesday evening, February 29. ROWING OTAGO CLUB. The annual races between crews of the Otago Rowing Club for the Howlison Cup were rowed off on Alonday evening. The winner was F. Brough, who will hold tho cup for a year. The first heat was rowed between A. Perry and A. R Johnstone. It was a very close contest. Both men were sent away to a splendid start, and Perry led his younger opponent at the hallway mark. Johnstone’s strenuous efforts were watched by Perry, and responded to, and both men went across tho finishing line with scarcely a length between them. Although Johnstone made a fine effort he was without the experience of his clubmate, who thus survived the first round.

F. Brough and C. J. ADAra contested tho second boat. These members of the champion crew provided a fine race for the spectators, and gave an exhibition of sculling which appealed to all the younger members of the club. Brough, in bis usual efficient way, got away with a sprint, with ADAra in close attendance. Herculean efforts by ADAra brought him level with his opponent ar about 300yds from the line; but the champion stroke, showing his rudder to his companion, wont away to secure a popular win by half a length. H. J. Whitehead and L. Simpson contested the third heat. Choppy watci upset both men, and the race was marked with good and bad strokes, Simpson being particularly affected in this way by the water. Whitehead went away to win by a length. In ilie second round E. Brough had a live.

The oilier beat was between A . Perry and H. J. AVhiteiiead. The Jornior, sculling well, had no difficulty in forging away to win by two lengths.

Tbo (iual was contested by F. Brough slid A. Perry. From a bad start Perry set out to overhaul his opponent, but after going quarter of the way he nearly overturned, and from then on he did not get into his swing, with the result that Brough had no difficulty in winning by three lengths. Had not Perry’s stroke been put off in the early stages of the rare the men would probably have finished very close.
